Mercedes B-Class Revealed
Mercedes has released official information on their upcoming 2012 Class B ahead of its full model unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. For those of you unaware, the price of class B was the incursion of companies in the small family car market for over six years now and enjoys great success on the way. Since its facelift back in 2008, it was completely intact until now with the next model is the first complete overhaul since its first version back in 2005.
Despite the absence of external official plans, there is an indication of what style will look like. Mercedes, allegedly inspired by the concept of class A-shown for the first time in the New York Auto Show, which would mean a very modern look that complements the luxury sports aggression. Interior shots are available, however, and the early signs are good, the interior really speaks what to expect from the rest of the car. Inside there are only a wealth of luxurious fabrics and high-tech gadgets to satisfy everybody looking for the perfect combination of comfort and entertainment. The first thing you notice are the huge vents, which are very reminiscent of the series SLK, and the steering wheel, which is captured directly from your CLS.
The center console was inspired by the big screen in an apparent iPad and that is the norm, that helps you navigate through the wealth of entertainment features control system using the new and improved multi-function control. The seats and upholstery is covered in Artico man-stitched leather and the dashboard features a large three-dimensional decoration.
Moving on engines, we have two versions on offer - the B180 and B200 internal name. The B180 is the smaller of the two, using its 122hp 1.6-liter engine. The B200 is slightly larger, which offers a 1.8 liter engine that pumps 156hp. Both are 4-cylinder engines, and Mercedes says that they can be mounted across or lengthwise, suggesting rear-wheel drive versions are available for the future. There are also rumors about the third version - a 2.0 liter diesel variant, to be unveiled at the launch in September. As for the transmission of a 6-speed manual comes standard with a 7-speed transmission with double clutch option for those who want even more choice material.
The fact that we live in today's green, it would be foolish to think of the Mercedes did not have any ideas for eco-project B-Class. Needless to say, some have written in the near future, some of the areas of design, plans that give a hint. The first is to use the sandwich floor last seen in the current Class B, which allows an open space inside the cabin. Mercedes say that this space is used full-length option 'to run' mode, which is just a fancy way of saying power. Another technique is Eco intends to release the package after it goes on sale. The idea is to to improve the aerodynamics of various external body kit that reduces the drag coefficient to 0.24, which is less than the Toyota Prius. Eco-mentalists to rejoice.
Overall, this will be a very interesting little development of the range Class B, which can make a big impact on the market for small family cars. It is expected to go on sale in November 2011 after revealing in Frankfurt next month.
